8 Dirty Little lies about your hotel room.

8 Dirty Little lies about your hotel room.

When we travel with our beloved friends, partners or even family, we ought to look for a fancy and nice place to stay in--these are the so called hotels. Hotels are classified depending on the services, amenities and quality of the hotel as a whole. One rule always apply, "pay more to get more/better services". However, do not be fooled by its outer cleanliness because when we'll examine it deeply, you will regret that you stayed at a hotel. Here are five disgusting lies of your hotel room.

(The following points are based on an interview and confessions of a maid in a hotel.)

1. Ready to use bathroom glass? Those bathroom glasses aren’t as clean as it may look. You may be so thirsty, but beware. Before you use that paper-covered glass in the bathroom, wash it thoroughly with soap and water. “As was dreadfully revealed in a recent Atlanta Fox News expose, some hotel maids don’t even bother to use soap when “cleaning” drinking glasses.” Hidden cameras in a major hotel revealed a potentially dangerous situation when a hotel maid wiped a “room’s glasses with a blue glass-cleaner clearly labeled “do not drink.” No soap was involved, but some potentially toxic liquid was.” They don’t take the time to sanitize them in a dishwasher. At best they simply wiped with a rag or rinsed them with plain water. Disgusting!

2. Clean Bed sheets? Bed sheets are occasionally get cleaned. It has been reported that bed sheets are cleaned every couple of weeks, if that. Since hotel rooms have little seating other than the bed, sitting, eating, jumping, and any number of (eew!) intimate activities can take place on top of the bedspread. Some parents even change diapers on the beds. Remove the bedspreads and throw pillows before using the bed.

3. All surface were cleaned? The most touched places are the least cleaned. You know what they are: light switches, doorknobs, toilet handles, clocks, lamps, faucet handles, the TV remote. “The bad news is that only the most conscientious maids would think to clean them.” Beware of viruses that can live longer than you’s imagine on these types of surfaces.

4. Safe and potable water? The water might not be safe either. I usually drink bottled water on trips, but we travel to my hometown, I never worry about drinking hotel water. Now, I’m going to be more careful, even back home. There is such a thing as water that has been “too” purified.

On December 14th, CBS News reported that “three guests of the EPIC hotel in Miami had come down with Legionnaire’s disease (one later died from the infection). It turns out the hotel’s high powered water purification system was filtering out chlorine from the city water supply, which allowed bacteria to grow. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 8,000 and 18,000 people are infected with the bacterial, Legionnaire’s disease each year. It’s spread through contaminated water vapors.”

5. The coffee maker and ice buckets have been around. Reconsider before putting ice directly into the ice bucket or brewing coffee in your room. Who knows what the previous guest did with them. A former hotel manager founds a variety of things, “including cigarette butts, vomit and urine, hidden in coffee makers and ice buckets”. He said that just because it was noticed “that doesn’t mean they do anything more than dump the contents out, rinse the inside of the pot or maker, and move on.”

6. Clean and bug free bed? Bed bugs are on the rise! Before you book a room, check out the Bed Bug Registry. This free service keeps track of bed bug incidents at all different kinds of locations, including hotels. The reports are dated, and in some cases feature responses and updates from hotel staff. So, you can judge for yourself whether the problem has been dealt with appropriately.

7. Clean Bath tubs?.Get your bathtub cleanedHousekeeping will sometimes wash your bathroom toilet in your bathtub. This saves them time, energy, and from having to take a trip downstairs to get a new one.

8. Treat your room as a safe? Put away your belongings. Housekeeping will ALWAYS show up to clean your room throughout the day, unless you personally tell them otherwise. You’d be shocked to hear how much is stolen each year due to housekeeping. Mind you, not all housekeepers play this way.

Clearly, the eight lies mentioned are enough for you to raise your guard and be extra careful on what to touch, what to use and where to place your things.

A statement for you to ponder my friend.

Interviewer: If someone's rude to you do you seek revenge and how?
Hotel Maid: I personally have never done anything but I heard of someone who was so angry about a rude comment made to them that they cleaned the bathroom floor with a towel and left it for the guest as their new towel.
